Driven by the continuous evolution of display technologies and the wave of intelligent innovation, the technological trajectory of through-hole LED displays is becoming increasingly clear.
With the rapid advancement of display technology and the continuous upgrading of market demands, technological innovation in through-hole LED displays has never ceased. The integration of Mini/Micro LED, intelligent upgrades, and environmental sustainability have emerged as three core developmental trends, propelling the industry into a new phase of growth.
The integration of Mini/Micro LED technology with through-hole LED displays will achieve a quantum leap in image quality. Traditional through-hole LED displays typically feature pixel pitches ranging from P5 to P10, resulting in relatively low resolution that struggles to meet the demands of close-range viewing scenarios (such as indoor exhibition halls and small-scale outdoor advertising). Moving forward, integrating Mini LED (chip size 100-300μm) and Micro LED (chip size <100μm) technologies into through-hole packaging processes will reduce pixel pitch to P1-P3. This achieves a 3-5-fold resolution increase while retaining the high brightness advantage of through-hole LEDs. For instance, a through-hole LED display employing Micro LED technology can achieve pixel densities exceeding 10,000 pixels per square metre. When viewed up close outdoors, the image detail is as sharp as a high-definition television, meeting the high-definition display requirements for premium outdoor advertising and indoor venues. Currently, the industry has commenced development of Mini/Micro LED through-hole packaging processes. It is anticipated that within the next 3-5 years, this technology will progressively achieve large-scale application, propelling through-hole LED displays from ‘outdoor large-format’ to ‘all-format, all-scenario’ coverage.
The integration of AI intelligent algorithms will enable through-hole LED displays to achieve ‘adaptive adjustment and intelligent operation and maintenance’. Future devices will incorporate AI image recognition chips to automatically optimise display contrast and colour saturation, adjusting parameters based on content (text, images, video) to enhance viewing experiences. Concurrently, AI energy management algorithms will analyse historical consumption data and real-time ambient light to generate optimal brightness profiles, further reducing power usage through ‘on-demand power delivery’. Regarding operations, the AI fault diagnosis system analyses display parameters like current, voltage, and temperature to predict potential failures (e.g., LED decay, driver chip anomalies) with over 90% accuracy. The system also generates automated repair plans, guiding technicians to swiftly locate faults and minimise maintenance time and costs. For instance, an outdoor advertising operator utilising AI-maintained through-hole LED displays achieved a 40% reduction in equipment failure rates and a 25% decrease in annual maintenance costs, significantly enhancing operational efficiency.
The application of eco-friendly materials will become a key development direction for through-hole LED displays. With the advancement of global low-carbon policies, the industry will increasingly adopt recyclable, low-pollution materials. Examples include lead-free soldering for PCB boards, biodegradable silicone for LED encapsulation, and recycled aluminium alloys for frames. This will elevate the recyclability rate of equipment to over 80%, thereby reducing environmental pollution. Concurrently, devices will further optimise energy consumption design. By employing more efficient driver chips and low-power LEDs, display energy usage will be reduced by a further 20%-30%, aligning with the ‘dual carbon’ objectives. Additionally, green manufacturing principles will be integrated into production processes, incorporating dust-free workshops and wastewater recycling systems to minimise energy consumption and pollutant emissions during manufacturing, achieving dual goals of ‘environmentally friendly products and environmentally friendly production’.
Looking ahead, as technologies such as Mini/Micro LED, AI, and eco-friendly materials mature and gain wider application, through-hole LED displays will achieve comprehensive breakthroughs in picture quality, intelligence, and environmental sustainability. This will deliver superior solutions for outdoor displays, indoor high-definition displays, and specialised industry applications, driving the industry's sustained and healthy development.
